The Tale of the Tooth Mouse

Children everywhere know who the Tooth Fairy is and look forward to visits from this fabled character. But where did the Tooth Fairy come from?

How Izzard Ink Helped This Book

Izzard Ink assembled an elite, kidlit-proven team—pairing this story with a former Disney illustrator, a former Disney/Hyperion cover designer and interior designer, and a Scholastic award–winning editor—then guided the project from editorial to final files. We also handled all metadata and wrote the market-ready book description to support discoverability and sales.

Before there was a Tooth Fairy… there was a Tooth Mouse.

In a kingdom of castles, knights, and cozy cottage corners, twins Jon and Anna have the best kind of friend: Timothy J—a clever, cartwheeling mouse with a big heart. When Jon’s very first tooth begins to wiggle, excitement turns to worry, because growing up can feel a little scary.

Determined to help, Timothy J sets out to make tooth-losing feel magical… but when another tooth is lost and he has nothing left to give, Timothy J’s kind wish shines brighter than ever—and calls forth the Fairy Queen herself. With a wave of her hand, Timothy J is transformed into a Tooth Fairy Prince, gifted with the power to turn every tucked-away tooth into a brand-new coin—so children everywhere can feel proud of “growing up.”

About The Author

Dr. Bentz was always captivated when a child shared the loss of a tooth and the reward they received from the Tooth Fairy. It is just one example of the unique imagination of children that led him to become a pediatric dentist. During his early years, while stationed in Europe as a combat Army officer, Dr. Bentz learned about the tradition of the “Tooth Mouse”. This European tradition inspired him to write the tale of Timothy J and the history of how he became the Tooth Fairy. Dr. Bentz has four sons and eleven grandchildren, which ensured lots of wiggly, wobbly teeth! The Tail of Tooth Mouse enabled him to reveal the “true” untold origins of the Tooth Fairy. He now enjoys life with his wife, Kim, at home in Pittsburgh, PA.
